Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and attorney who is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice president and is the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. Being a part of the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California in 2011-2017 and a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then, she was recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected district attorney of San Francisco. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and campaigned for reforms to healthcare as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She was praised nationally due to her sharp examination of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of assault on a woman.
